Burglars hit Laguna governor’s house

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines — Burglars reportedly broke into the house of Laguna Gov. Ramil Hernandez and carted away P20 million in cash, police said yesterday.

The incident reportedly occurred on Nov. 3 in Barangay Dila in Bay town.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, three police officers confirmed the incident, saying the burglary occurred between 2 a.m. and 7 a.m. and was reported at 10:45 a.m.

The officers said that investigators were allegedly told by the Hernandez family not to reveal the incident to the media.

A police report obtained by The STAR yesterday said the property is being managed by a caretaker and guarded by members of the VSM Security Agency.

The robbers reportedly forcibly opened the back door in order to gain entry into the property.

The suspects destroyed the door of the vault with the use of a bolt cutter and took away P20 million in cash.

But they reportedly failed to take more than P1 million in cash, which was placed in a secret chamber of the vault.

Responding police officers recovered the remaining cash amounting to P1,024,500 and other personal belongings.

The items were turned over to Dennis Hernandez, executive assistant of the governor.
