MANILA, Philippines — Starting this week, the Commission on Elections will resolve the petitions for the declaration of some 300 local candidates in the 2025 midterm polls as nuisance.
Comelec Chairman George Garcia said as soon as the resolutions for the remaining nuisance cases of senatorial aspirants are completed, the poll body will tackle the local bets.
On Sunday, the Comelec declared 47 senatorial candidates as nuisance.
“We will be coming out with the decision on the remaining cases of 117 senatorial aspirants. After that, we will take up the local candidates,” Garcia said in an interview.
The Comelec vowed to resolve all pending petitions against nuisance aspirants as soon as possible.
“We hope that by the end of November, the Comelec should have resolved the nuisance cases, not just in the division but at the en banc level, all petitions so that the list of candidates will be cleansed come December,” Garcia said.
The Comelec received 183 certificates of candidacy for senator during the filing period from Oct. 1 to 8.
Of the number, 66 aspirants are included in the partial list of Senate bets for the 2025 elections.
