MANILA, Philippines — A Senate inquiry into a sport utility vehicle (SUV) that illegally entered the EDSA bus lane on Sunday is being considered by Sen. Raffy Tulfo.
The SUV bearing a fake “7” protocol plate assigned to senators nearly hit a traffic enforcer before fleeing.
Tulfo, chairman of the Senate public services committee, said he might call for a hearing if the Land Transportation Office (LTO) identifies the driver and SUV owner.
“The driver’s license should be revoked,” he said.
“Once we have identified the driver, I might call for a probe so this will not be repeated, that anybody can just fake a car plate,” Tulfo added.
The SUV allegedly attempted to run over traffic enforcer Sarah Barnachea after being flagged for passing through the EDSA bus lane.
The LTO has confirmed that the “7” protocol plate of the SUV is fake.
According to LTO Executive Director Greg Pua, the agency did not issue any Senate protocol plate to a white Cadillac Escalade as shown in the viral video. — Cecille Suerte Felipe
