COTABATO CITY, Philippines — Two suspected communist insurgents surrendered to the military in Bukidnon on Friday.

Ronie Bagubay, 47, and Loloy Puklawan, 34, turned over their firearms to authorities in a ceremony in Barangay Kibungcog, San Fernando town.

Maj. Gen. Allan Hambala, chief of the Army’s 10th Infantry Division, said local executives and tribal leaders helped convince Bagubay and Puklawan to return to the fold of the law.

The rebels reportedly admitted extorting farmers in the hinterlands of Bukidnon
