MANILA, Philippines — The final list of voters for the 2025 midterm polls is expected to be released by the end of the month after the Commission on Elections delists duplicate registrations from the Comelec database.

“We will be deleting at least one million voter registration records found by our AFIS as double or multiple registrants,” Comelec Chairman George Garcia said, referring to the Automated Fingerprint Identification System.

The AFIS uses voters’ biometrics to detect duplicate registrations.

One million duplicate registrations were detected by the AFIS, according to Garcia.

The Election Registration Board will hold a special meeting on the cleanup of the voter list, he noted.

People who registered more than once may be held liable for committing an election offense, Garcia said.

“We will check the reasons behind the multiple registrations – whether they are cases of transfer that were not immediately forwarded, or reactivation but applied as new registrants,” he said.

Comelec data showed there were 68,618,667 eligible voters for next year’s elections.

Three elections will take place in 2025: the midterm and the first Bangsamoro parliamentary elections in May as well as the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan polls in December.
