MANILA, Philippines — Guarantee letters (GL) issued by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) are now accepted in 171 branches of Mercury Drug nationwide.
A GL is a document issued by the DSWD addressed to service providers, which guarantees payment on behalf of the beneficiary, including medicines and hospital bills.
DSWD Undersecretary for operations Monina Josefina Romualdez has signed an agreement with Mercury Drug for the initiative.
“This partnership is a testament to the efforts of the DSWD in addressing the medical needs of the poor,” she said.
Among the Mercury Drug stores that have accepted DSWD-issued GLs are its branches in Fairview Commonwealth, Ever Gotesco Commonwealth, Visayas in Tandang Sora, Marikina, J.P. Rizal and Plaza Miranda in Quiapo.
The initiative is part of the DSWD’s Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation or AICS, which provides medical, burial, transportation, food or financial assistance to those in need.
