LTO probes online portal breakdown

MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Office is investigating a severed internet line, which led to the breakdown of the LTO’s online portal yesterday, affecting thousands of motorists nationwide.

LTO chief Vigor Mendoza said he ordered a thorough probe after learning that the internet line of the Land Transportation and Management System (LTMS) was cut.

“I apologize for the service disruption of the LTMS,” he said.

“We have an initial report, but I want a detailed explanation as to why this incident happened,” Mendoza added.

The LTMS operation bogged down starting at 7 a.m. yesterday and returned to normal at 6:30 p.m.

Mendoza said investigation at the LTO central office showed that the main line, which connects the LTMS center to the internet, had been cut.

He said they are still investigating if the internet cable of the LTMS data center was deliberately removed.

“We are looking into all angles behind this incident. Security measures are in place to prevent a repeat of the incident,” Mendoza said.
