MANILA, Philippines — Thirteen Chinese nationals allegedly involved in illegal mining activities in Guiuan, Eastern Samar were  arrested yesterday morning.

The foreigners were collared by a joint team of the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC) and Bureau of Immigration (BI) as well as the police and military in two mining sites on Homonhon Island.

PAOCC executive director Gilbert Cruz said the team raided the Rockstar Contract Solution Inc. and Global Min Met Mining Co. at around 9 a.m.

Cruz said the foreigners were arrested for violation of immigration laws.

“The Chinese nationals will be brought to Manila for further investigation by the BI,” Cruz said.

He said the PAOCC would conduct a case buildup against the foreigners for violating environmental laws once they are transferred to the agency’s detention facility.

Two weeks ago, 11 Chinese nationals were also arrested for  engaging in illegal mining in Paracale, Camarines Norte.

The foreigners reportedly failed to present documents.
