MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) has identified persons of interest in the case of an American who was seized by unidentified men in Zamboanga del Norte more than a week ago
Brig. Gen. Jean Fajardo, spokesperson for the PNP, said the police and military are conducting coastal and lookout operations for Elliot Eastman, who was seized by suspected remnants of the Abu Sayyaf bandit group in Sibuco town on Oct. 17.
Authorities have yet to find proof of life, Fajardo said as she expressed hope that Eastman is still alive.
She said one particular person of interest may provide additional information that can help locate Eastman.
Fajardo said this person sent surrender feelers, a development she described as promising for the investigation.
She said two other people believed connected to the case are being scrutinized for possible links to a local terrorist group.
“We are still validating the information. I had it checked with our directorate for intelligence. We are waiting for confirmation on their association or affiliation,” Fajardo said.
