MANILA, Philippines —  Three barangays in Central Luzon are still affected by bird flu, according to the Bureau of Animal Industry.

The BAI said that as of Oct. 18, cases of avian influenza were recorded in villages in Tarlac City and San Luis in Pampanga.

Eight farmers in Tarlac reported that their ducks, native chickens, turkeys and gamefowls have contracted the disease.

An outbreak of avian flu in ducks was reported in Tarlac, the BAI said.

It said up to 46 municipalities in 16 provinces have recovered from the effects of avian influenza.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says the bird flu virus spreads among wild aquatic birds and may infect domestic poultry and other bird and animal species.

Although the virus does not usually infect humans, sporadic human infections of avian influenza have been reported, the center said.
