MANILA, Philippines — Despite rising fuel prices, transport group Stop and Go Coalition is not keen on pursuing its petition for a P15 minimum fare increase.

“We will not proceed with our plan to push for a fare hike,” the group’s president Zaldy Ping-Ay said over the weekend.

Ping-Ay said they had pushed to increase traditional jeepneys’ minimum fare to P15 from P12, and modernized public utility vehicles, from P15 to P18.

Some of the group’s members received only P6,500 in fuel subsidy instead of P10,000 despite operating modern public utility vehicles, Ping-Ay said.

Operators of jeepneys and modern PUVs should receive fuel subsidies from the government amounting to P6,500 and P10,000, respectively.
