MANILA, Philippines — A shooting incident erupted in a hotpot restaurant in Makati City after midnight last Thursday, claiming the life of a 29-year-old Chinese man.

The victim was dining with acquaintances in a private room of the restaurant when violence suddenly disrupted the evening.

Closed circuit television footage captured the horrifying moment when one of the companions, who is also a Chinese national, abruptly rose from his seat and fired four shots at close range, striking the victim in the hand, arm and chest.

Despite immediate medical attention and transportation to a nearby hospital, the victim was pronounced dead on arrival.

The Makati City law enforcement is investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

The confrontation stemmed from a business-related discussion between the victim and the suspect, according to Police Captain Jenibeth Artista.

“The suspect was provoked by the victim, whom he met on Telegram regarding the supply of corn and rice,” Artista said.

The heated exchange escalated into a deadly confrontation.

Investigators found eight bullet casings, two metal jackets and five bullets at the crime scene.

Authorities are carefully examining whether the shooting was pre-meditated, as this could significantly impact the potential charges against the unidentified suspect, possibly elevating them to murder.

The Makati City Police has launched a manhunt to capture the suspect, who fled the scene after the shooting.

Police are also working with the Land Transportation Office to trace the ownership of the vehicle used for the suspect’s escape.

Authorities suspect that the perpetrator may have a high-profile background, as it was reported that he also assaulted the restaurant owner during the incident.

As the investigation continues, police are exploring all angles, including the possibility of a love triangle, although initial indications suggest that the motive was rooted in business disputes.
