MANILA, Philippines — A phreatic eruption, lasting two minutes, was recorded at Taal volcano yesterday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

The agency also recorded one volcanic earthquake and an upwelling of hot volcanic fluids in the Main Crater Lake.

These activities generated plumes of up to 2,400 meters tall, drifting to the northwest, Phivolcs said.

Sulfur dioxide emission was last recorded at 2,256 tons per day on Oct. 9.

State volcanologists said Taal remains under Alert Level 1 or low-level unrest.

Phivolcs also warned that entry into the permanent danger zone should continue to be prohibited as possible hazards, including phreatic or gas-driven explosions, volcanic earthquakes, minor ashfall and expulsions of volcanic gas, could occur.
