93 vying for congressional seats in Metro Manila

Jose Rodel Clapano - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Ninety-three candidates are competing for 33 congressional districts in Metro Manila, the Commission on Elections announced yesterday.

Comelec-National Capital Region Assistant Director Jovencio Balanquit made the announcement after receiving the last certificate of candidacy (COC), filed by Fidela Valenciano Mallan, who is running as an independent candidate for the 5th District in Quezon City.

In the 2022 national elections, Balanquit said 92 candidates ran for 33 congressional seats.

Among those who beat the COC deadline yesterday were Queenie Gonzales of Mandaluyong and Bel Zamora of San Juan.

Gonzales said she wants to focus on filing legislative measures that would regulate the use of artificial intelligence.

“I want to focus on AI to fight fake news,” she said.

Zamora said she would continue her advocacy for persons with disabilities.
