MANILA, Philippines — Parañaque 1st District Rep. Edwin Olivarez formalized his bid for the city’s mayoralty post in the 2025 midterm elections as he filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) yesterday.
Edwin switched places with his younger brother Mayor Eric Olivarez, who filed his COC for congressman.
Eric’s wife Aileen Claire also filed her COC as an independent candidate, challenging Edwin for mayor of Parañaque, despite the objection of her husband.
According to Aileen Claire, her father-in-law, former mayor Pablo Olivarez, backed her decision to run for mayor.
The brothers were joined by Parañaque 2nd District Rep. Gustavio Tambunting, who is seeking reelection.
Edwin’s running mate is Vice Mayor Joan Villafuerte.
The team first attended a mass at the San Antonio de Padua Church before proceeding to the local Commission on Elections office at the Parañaque city hall to file their COCs.
According to Edwin, their family decided that Eric succeed him as 1st District representative because of the latter’s capability as a lawmaker, legislator and policy maker.
