MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) reactivated its Southern Visayas district to serve the newly created Negros Island Region (NIR).
The new PCG district would be composed of its stations in Northern Negros Occidental, Southern Negros Occidental, Dumaguete and Siquijor.
Commodore Ludovico Librilla Jr. was installed as the Coast Guard District Southern Visayas commander during a ceremony in Bacolod City on Thursday, while Auxiliary Commodore Dannyl Yap was named the acting director for the group’s auxiliary unit.
Admiral Ronnie Gil Gavan, PCG commandant, challenged Librilla and Yap to expand the Coast Guard operations in the region.
In a statement, the PCG said the new district was reactivated when President Marcos signed and approved Republic Act 12000, which established the NIR on June 11.
