MANILA, Philippines — To be able to pursue the attempted homicide case filed against Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) player John Amores and his brother, a lawmaker said yesterday he is giving free legal assistance to the victim.

Manila Rep. Joel Chua said he would help Lee Cacalda get justice.

Amores and his brother John Red were released from detention on Sept. 27 after posting bail.

On Sept. 25, the PBA player was recorded on closed-circuit television footage firing a gun at Cacalda after a basketball game in Lumban, Laguna.

Video footage showed Amores disembarking from a motorcycle driven by his 20-year-old brother in Barangay Maytalang Uno, before firing a gun at the victim.

Cacalda did not sustain injuries during the shooting.

Before joining the PBA, Amores was suspended in 2022 after he went amuck during a basketball game between Jose Rizal University and the College of St. Benilde.
