BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya, Philippines — Fifty people were injured when a hanging bridge collapsed in the town of Alfonso Castañeda in this province yesterday.
The victims, who included seven teachers and 43 students, were walking along the 10-meter-long bridge in Barangay Abuyo when the incident occurred at around 8:30 a.m., according to Maj. Glanery Cabeliza, town police chief.
Some of the victims fell into the river, others to the ground. They were brought to a rural health clinic and at the Good Samaritan Medical Center in Cabanatuan City for treatment of injuries.
