Sara visits Leni in Naga
MANILA, Philippines — Vice President Sara Duterte met with former vice president Leni Robredo in the latter’s hometown in Naga City yesterday.
“While she was in Naga City for the Peñafrancia Festival, VP Sara Duterte took the opportunity to visit me at my home. The conversation we had was personal and not political,” Robredo said in a statement sent to the media through her spokesman Barry Gutierrez.
“VP Leni was informed of the visit only minutes before she was told that VP Sara was already on the way. The visit lasted for about an hour,” Gutierrez said.
No other details about the meeting were provided.
The meeting was first reported by news website Politiko. It cited a source, who said that Duterte flew to Bicol International Airport in Albay and traveled by land to Naga.
Robredo ran for president against Duterte’s running mate and eventual winner, President Marcos.
The meeting happened amid the rift between Marcos and Duterte, who said in a recent interview that she and the President are not friends despite running under the same ticket.
The Vice President also vowed not to run again with a Marcos.
Robredo will run for mayor of Naga City, the Liberal Party confirmed yesterday.
