Angat Dam water level up due to monsoon
MANILA, Philippines — The water level of Angat Dam has increased by 0.22 meters amid rains brought by the southwest monsoon, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
As of 8 a.m. yesterday, the water level of the reservoir had reached 194.67 meters compared to its previous level of 194.45 meters.
It was still 15.33 meters below its normal high water level of 210 meters, PAGASA said.
It is 14.67 meters above its minimum operating level of 180 meters.
PAGASA hydrologist Rosalie Pagulayan said at least 260 millimeters of rain are needed to reach the normal high water level of Angat Dam.
“As of now, we do not expect high rainfall in the Angat watersheds,” Pagulayan said.
Angat Dam supplies more than 90 percent of Metro Manila’s potable water needs. The dam provides irrigation for 25,000 hectares of farms in Bulacan and Pampanga.
The La Mesa Dam in Quezon City reached 79.40 meters or 0.75 meters before its spilling level of 80.15 meters.
