Police eye drug deal in food delivery rider’s slay

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines — Investigators are eyeing the possibility that a failure to remit the proceeds of a drug deal led to the killing of a food delivery rider and the shooting of his live-in partner.

According to a special investigation team report, victim John Mark Samonte acted as a drug courier in Pasay City, aside from working for a food delivery company, but later transferred together with his partner to Bacoor City in Cavite to escape the drug group.

“(Samonte) was wanted by the drug syndicate because of his failure to remit his drug collection,” an investigator said.

The victim’s live-in partner, who survived the shooting incident by playing dead, identified one of the five suspects as alias LJ.
