MANILA, Philippines — Despite his ouster over the escape of dismissed Bamban mayor Alice Guo, former Bureau of Immigration commissioner Norman Tansingco yesterday expressed his gratitude to President Marcos for being given the opportunity to head the BI for two years.
Tansingco described his stint in the BI as a time “filled with optimism, challenges and determination.”
During his term, Tansingco lobbied for the passage of the BI Modernization Act.
Marcos ordered the dismissal of Tansingco on Monday following the escape of Guo in July.
Tansingco said he would welcome anyone who would be appointed as his successor.
Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla named Immigration Deputy Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado as officer-in-charge of the BI.
