BAGUIO CITY —  Although dengue cases are on a downtrend in Baguio City from Aug. 22 until Sept. 5, 2024, the total number of cases remained at an all-time high with the death toll further climbing to 15.

Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong said that “public vigilance must continue especially in search and destroy operations to continually weed out mosquito breeding places and in seeking early consultations to prevent deaths" even if dengue cases are tapering off.

The Baguio City Health Services Office said that as of September 5, Thursday, there are 6,718 cases, with 15 deaths including four children aged 1, 4, 6 and 9.

“The impact of dengue is observed across a wide age range but the higher number of deaths were seen among adults (31 to 50 years),” the Baguio City Health Services Office said.

Records showed that there were more male deaths than female while majority of the deaths occurred from June to August.  Two deaths occurred were registered in Irisan and Camp 7, while the rest were from unique locations.

The top ten barangays with the highest number of cases are Irisan, Bakakeng Central, Asin Road, Pacdal, Sto. Tomas Proper, Camp 7, Gibraltar, Loakan Proper, Bakakeng Norte and Pinget.
