BAGUIO CITY, Philippines – A rice trader was killed while his wife was wounded in an attack by motorcycle-riding men in Manabo, Abra on Tuesday.

Rodel and Zoraida Bermudez were tending their shop in Barangay San Ramon when a motorcycle with two men on board pulled over.

One of the men reportedly entered the store and shot the victims multiple times.

Rodel was declared dead on arrival in a hospital, where his wife was taken for treatment of gunshot wounds.

The suspects were arrested at a checkpoint while in a pickup truck owned by a councilor of Manabo.

The councilor said he and his child and cousin were on their way to Bangued when two men pulled them over and asked to be allowed to ride with them. He said he did not know the men were behind the shooting of a couple in Manabo.

Investigation is ongoing.
