MALOLOS, Philippines — Rains spawned by Tropical Storm Enteng and the southwest monsoon have improved the water level in Angat Dam in Bulacan.

Meanwhile, Ipo and Bustos dams, also located in Bulacan, yesterday reduced the volume of water released for irrigation of farms in Central Luzon.

Data from the Bulacan disaster risk reduction and management office showed that as of yesterday morning, the water level in Angat was 187.60 meters, which was higher by 7.6 than its minimum operating level of 180 meters.

The elevation was lower by 24.4 meters than the dam’s normal high water level of 212 meters.

Meanwhile, the elevation in Ipo and Bustos dams yesterday dropped to 100.54 and 17.34 meters from the previous day’s 101.30 and 17.33 meters, respectively.

Josephine Salazar, chief of the National Irrigation Administration in Central Luzon, said that Ipo released 221.70 cubic meters per second of water on Monday afternoon and reduced this to 33.20 cms yesterday morning.

On the same day, Bustos Dam released 1,300 cms of water and reduced this to 134 cms by yesterday, Salazar said.

She said that as of yesterday afternoon, Bustos Dam has yet to release water for irrigation of farmlands in Bulacan and parts of Pampanga.
