MANILA, Philippines — The Caloocan government yesterday welcomed the plebiscite result splitting Barangay Bagong Silang into six barangays.
Up to 25,345 residents voted on Saturday to ratify Republic Act 11993, dividing the country’s largest village into Barangays 176-A through 176-F. Over 2,580 residents voted against it.
Each barangay will be autonomous with its own set of local officials.
Caloocan Mayor Along Malapitan endorsed the plebiscite results, saying the city government would coordinate with the Commission on Elections to appoint qualified officials for the new barangays.
Malapitan assured residents of the new barangays that they would continue receiving basic services and other benefits from the city government.
