MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed the construction of an P87-million concrete seawall in Cadiz City, Negros Occidental.

The wall will protect coastal communities from strong waves and high tide, according to Sanny Boy Oropel, chief of the DPWH-Western Visayas.

The seawall was designed to absorb and deflect wave energy, prevent soil erosion and stabilize the coastline.

“Fisherfolk and residents living along the shores in Barangay Zone 1 are now safe from the threat of sudden tidal surge and raging waters,” Oropel said.

He said the structure also serves as a separator and can be utilized by fisherfolk as a docking area during high tide and typhoons.
