Pakistani held for hit-and-run

MANILA, Philippines — Police arrested a Pakistani national after he ran over a woman in a hit-and-run accident in Parañaque, which was recorded on video.

The suspect identified only as Salman, 26, is being held on charges of reckless imprudence resulting in physical injury.

Salman hit a 49-year-old woman in Barangay Don Bosco on Friday.

Police investigators said the victim, known only as Loida, was walking along Levitown Avenue when the suspect, who was in a Toyota Innova, hit her at the corner of Wales street.

Video footage of the acciddent posted on the Facebook page of Visor showed the vehicle hitting the victim from the rear and running over her as she fell on the sidewalk.

The video had generated 5,700 reactions and 923 comments from netizens as of yesterday afternoon.

Instead of stopping to help the victim, the Pakistani continued driving and attempted to escape toward Barangay Moonwalk.

Barangay public safety officers chased the suspect and cornered him.

He was turned over to the Parañaque police for investigation.

A rescue team brought the victim to a hospital for treatment.

Police said they are investigating if the suspect was drunk during the mishap.
