Quezon City expands Green Awards

Janvic Mateo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines —The Quezon City government will recognize more institutions this year in its annual QC Green Awards, which recognizes and provides incentives to organizations and institutions that implemented outstanding climate action and disaster risk reduction and management programs.

From 13 awardees last year, Mayor Joy Belmonte said they plan to award a total of 48 groups and organizations in the QC Green Awards 2024.

“With more awardees, we hope to encourage more residents and stakeholders to take part in protecting our environment. Let’s work together for a sustainable, safe and green future for everyone,” she said.

Launched in 2023, the QC Green Awards provides incentives to barangays, Sangguniang Kabataan, youth-based organizations and businesses that implement best practices on climate change adaptation and disaster resiliency.

This year, the city said it will open the awards to schools and health institutions.

Organizations and institutions may win awards under the green and resilient categories.

Winning barangays, businesses, hospitals and schools can get up to P300,000 while Sangguniang Kabataan and youth-based organizations can receive P100,000.

The city government said the cash grant can be utilized to support and strengthen their ongoing or future climate action and disaster risk reduction projects.

The submission of entries is open until Sept. 15 at the QC Green Awards microsite greenawards.quezoncity.gov.ph. The awarding ceremony will be held in November.
