MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Raffy Tulfo yesterday called for the suspension of the driver’s license of a motorist who drove against the flow of traffic along the EDSA bus lane in Makati.
Tulfo said the motorist received “special treatment” from officials of the Department of Transportation (DOTr).
“Prove to me that you are not babysitting this Christopher Lim de Vera. Suspend his driver’s license,” Tulfo told Greg Pua Jr., Land Transportation Office (LTO) executive director, during a joint hearing of the Senate committee on public services and local government on the fair traffic apprehension law.
In response, Pua assured Tulfo that the LTO is looking into the incident.
Tulfo also asked the DOTr to reprimand its personnel who reportedly escorted De Vera to his house in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.
Tulfo challenged the DOTr and LTO officials to prove that they did not extend special treatment to the motorist.
Earlier, the LTO issued a show-cause order against the driver of a sport utility vehicle who used the EDSA bus lane along Guadalupe, Makati.
The EDSA Carousel is exclusive for city buses, ambulances, police vehicles, fire trucks as well as marked government vehicles responding to emergencies.
Convoys of the president, vice president, Senate president, speaker of the House of Representatives and chief justice are also authorized on the bus lane.
