MANILA, Philippines — At least 174,000 service connections are affected by the water interruption in Quezon City and parts of Valenzuela City, which started at 12:01 a.m. today and will last until 4 a.m. tomorrow, according to Maynilad Water Services Inc.

Maynilad media relations head Madel Zaide said the water cutoff was necessary to allow leak repair and maintenance activities at the concessionaire’s North C Annex pumping station in Quezon City.

“This is part of regular activities to ensure that our facilities are working properly,” she said in a radio interview.

Zaide said that affected areas represent at least 11 percent of Maynilad’s total customers.

According to Zaide, at least 35 water tankers are on standby to provide clear water to affected areas.

Among those affected in Quezon City include Bagbag, Bagong Silangan, Batasan Hills, Commonwealth, Greater Fairview, Gulod, Holy Spirit, North Fairview, Payatas, San Bartolome, Sauyo, Sta. Lucia, Sta. Monica and Talipapa.

Barangay Ugong in Valenzuela City is also affected by the water suppply interruption, Zaide said.
