9 injured in Quezon Province motorcycle race mishap

MANILA, Philippines — Nine people were injured in an accident that occurred during a motorcycle race in Lopez, Quezon yesterday morning.

The victims, including a race participant, were rushed to the Magsaysay District Hospital for treatment of injuries. They were identified as Jhon Paul Aguirre, 18; Nhaz de Asis, 14; Eunard Calabia, 30; Chubs Datario, 16; John Michael Leal, 17; Emerson Nonado, 30; Jon Michael Pedraza, 18; Yna Sanchez, 20, and Crisha Mae Sarsadiaz, 19.

Investigation showed Pedraza, who was reportedly a participant in the race, lost control of the wheel as he was cruising along Maharlika Highway in Barangay Magsaysay.

Pedraza reportedly hit the victims, who were watching the race.

Meanwhile, in Pangasinan, a security guard died when his motorcycle crashed along the road in Manaoag town on Saturday night.

Leonardo Roque Jr., 52, was traveling in Barangay Cabanbanan when he lost control of the wheel.

Roque was declared dead on arrival at the Manaoag Community Hospital due to severe head and body injuries.

Reports said the victim, who was not wearing a helmet, was thrown off his motorcycle.
