MANILA, Philippines — Employees who will report to work on Aug. 21 and Aug. 26, which are declared holidays, will receive additional pay, according to the Department of Labor and Employment.

DOLE Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma reminded employers to observe proper payment of wages during holidays.

Laguesma noted that Aug. 21, declared as Ninoy Aquino Day, is a special non-working holiday.

Workers are entitled to receive an additional 30 percent pay in their first eight hours of work on Aug. 21.

Those who will render overtime work shall be paid an additional 30 percent of their hourly rate. Employees working on a special day that falls on their rest day will be given 50 percent more of their basic wage on the first eight hours of work.

An additional 30 percent must be provided for those who will work beyond eight hours on a special holiday that falls on their rest day.

The DOLE said the “no work, no pay” policy applies to those who would not opt to work, unless there is a company rule or collective bargaining agreement granting payment during a special holiday.

Employees who will work on Aug. 26, which has been declared National Heroes Day, will receive double their regular daily pay.
