MANILA, Philippines — Seventy-four women suspected to be victims of human trafficking were rescued by police during a raid on a nightclub in Quezon City yesterday.

Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan, Quezon City Police District director, said the raid on the nightclub along Imperial street in Barangay E. Rodriguez occurred at around 1:30 a.m.

Maranan said police officers arrested six people allegedly serving as operation manager, receptionist and guest relations officers.

“This successful operation is a testament to the unwavering commitment of our team to combat human trafficking and protect the vulnerable,” he said in a statement.

Maranan said they launched the operation after receiving reports that the nightclub staged lewd shows for its customers.

Police officers who posed as customers confirmed the establishment was showing indecent dance numbers.

The suspects are facing charges of violating Republic Act 9208 or the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act as amended by RA 10364.

The women were turned over to the city government’s social services development department.

“We will continue to work tirelessly to ensure justice for these victims and hold those who exploit others accountable,” Maranan said.
