MANILA, Philippines — Cyclists will now be able to use additional facilities set up across Quezon City and inside the University of the Philippines campus in Diliman.

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) on Monday turned over almost three dozen short-term end-of-trip cycling facilities to the Quezon City government and the UP administration.

Fifteen sets of cycling facilities were built across the city. Another 21 sets were put up around the UP campus.

Each set contains bicycle racks, shed and a repair station.

“Cycling is more than just a mode of transportation. It is a powerful tool for change. By providing these end-of-trip facilities, we are encouraging the people to choose cycling as a viable option for everyday commuting,” Mayor Joy Belmonte said.

According to DOTr, the project is part of the department’s efforts to promote biking as a means of sustainable transportation.

“This is just the beginning. These facilities symbolize our ongoing journey toward a more sustainable and cyclist-friendly Quezon City, where our streets are safer and our air is cleaner,” Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista said.

“To cyclists, we encourage you to use these facilities. Let us all be champions of change, setting an example for others to follow,” he added.

Belmonte has committed to expand Quezon City’s bicycle network and support active transportation among residents and workers.
