MANILA, Philippines — A Philippine Navy applicant died after falling from the new Senate building, which is still under construction, in Taguig on Thursday night.

Witnesses saw the 23-year-old man enter the construction site and run toward the building’s third floor at around 7 p.m., the Southern Police District reported.

Witnesses alerted the security guards, but they were unable to locate the victim, police said.

At around 9 p.m., the witnesses and security guards heard a loud thud and found the man’s body on the ground.

In a statement yesterday, the Senate said the victim was reportedly pursued by a companion when he slipped into the construction site.

“According to the report, the victim fell from the north tower – it is yet unclear from which floor – at around 10 p.m.,” the Senate said.

Senate spokesman Arnel Jose Bañas said Senate President Francis Escudero ordered a thorough investigation and a review of the security protocols at the site.
