MANILA, Philippines — No Filipinos were injured or killed after Typhoon Gaemi (Carina in the Philippines) reached Taiwan, the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO) reported yesterday.

“There were no reports of any incidents from our (overseas Filipino workers or) OFWs,” MECO said while noting that Migrant Workers’ Offices are closely monitoring the Filipino community.

Based on news reports, at least three people died and more than 220 were injured as Gaemi battered Taiwan on Wednesday.

MECO said the Taiwanese government declared work cancellation, but private workers who opted to report to work were provided overtime pay.
