Chinese woman escapes kidnappers in Laguna

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines — A Chinese woman managed to escape her kidnappers in Calamba, Laguna on Monday night.

The woman – identified only as Li, 32, a native of Qingyuan, Guangdong – managed to untie her hands and escape through an open window of a house in Punta Aldea Subdivision in Barangay Punta, according to Calamba police chief Lt. Col. Titoy Jay Cuden.

Li ran from the house until she reached the guard post of a neighboring subdivision and sought the help of security guard Jovan Castillo.

The security guard reported the incident to the police, resulting in the arrest of a Chinese man identified as Hu, 36, a resident of Punta Aldea Subdivision.

Cuden said Hu and two still unidentified suspects were charged with serious illegal detention before the city prosecutor’s office yesterday.

The victim told police she was acquainted with Hu and that he kidnapped her to demand ransom from her family.
