Angat Dam water level up by 2 meters
MANILA, Philippines — The water level of Angat Dam has increased by almost two meters amid the rains in the country, though it is still five meters below its normal operating level of 180 meters.
As of 8 a.m. yesterday, the water elevation of the reservoir was up by 1.8 meters after it reached 175 meters, compared to its previous level of 173.2 meters.
Patrick Dizon, Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System water and sewerage management department manager, said in a message to The STAR that the MWSS expects Angat Dam to further improve amid the expected La Niña phenomenon.
“Last July12, PAGASA (Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration) raised the La Niña category into alert level. This is expected to enhance the rainfall within the Angat-Ipo-La Mesa watersheds, which we are now experiencing,” Dizon said.
“With the watersheds now saturated, we anticipate further increase in reservoir levels,” he added.
Dizon said the 1.8-meter rise in reservoir level would benefit Metro Manila residents.
