Israeli embassy funds livelihood projects

Pia Lee-Brago - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The Israeli embassy in Manila has awarded a financial development grant to the Self-Help Group (SHeG) community enterprise in the Diocese of Libmanan and Apostolic Vicariate of Calapan.

The fund, amounting to P580,000 and granted under the MASHAV, was formally awarded to Nelsie Uy on July 8 at the office of Caritas Philippines in Intramuros, Manila.

The money will be used to finance the SheG community enterprise, which is Uy’s chosen project.

MASHAV is the Hebrew acronym for the Agency for International Development Cooperation in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Israel.

Israeli Ambassador Ilan Fluss congratulated Uy for her commitment and support to improve life in rural communities by opening job opportunities and income generation initiatives, especially for women.

“Through this project, we are contributing to poverty alleviation and the Sustainable Development Goals,” Fluss said.

The micro-financial grant aims to support ongoing development projects selected by MASHAV alumni like Uy.

It complements MASHAV’s capacity-building efforts and supports grassroots development initiatives.
