MANILA, Philippines — Unidentified suspects destroyed some of the newly installed elevators at stations of the EDSA bus lane, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority reported yesterday.

The MMDA said glass elevators at the stations of EDSA Carousel in Balintawak, Quezon City, Bagong Barrio in Caloocan and Guadalupe in Makati were shattered.

The agency said wires at the control panel at the Bagong Barrio station of the EDSA bus lane were pulled out.

“The contractor replaced the destroyed equipment for free,” the MMDA said.

Acting MMDA Chairman Romando Artes appealed to the public not to destroy the elevators, which would benefit pregnant, disabled and elderly commuters.

Artes and Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista opened two more stations of the EDSA Carousel in Philam and Kamuning in Quezon City yesterday.
