MANILA, Philippines — The visit of Kris Aquino’s sons Joshua and Bimby to First Lady Liza Marcos was “personal” and “not surprising,” President Marcos said yesterday.
Marcos said the Aquinos and the Marcoses “have always been OK” despite opposing views in politics.
The President also said Liza is the aunt of the Aquino siblings.
“What the reports did not say is that Liza is their aunt. Because her auntie married Don Pepe (Cojuangco), the eldest brother of Cory,” the President told reporters in an interview, referring to Kris’ mother, the late former president Corazon Aquino.
“So they are related. The visit is not surprising. Liza knows her nephews very well,” Marcos said.
He said Josh and Bimby dropped by Liza’s office on Tuesday to bring her “pasalubong” (presents).
“It’s sort of I suppose, put a little more – how do you say – personal, a human interaction between our families,” Marcos said.
Kris is the sister of the late president Benigno Aquino III and daughter of the late senator Benigno Aquino, a critic of Marcos’ father, former president Ferdinand Marcos.
Pressed on the nature of the visit, Marcos said Josh and Bimby asked help from the First Lady for travel arrangements.
“They said they just wanted to say thank you. And so – I think it was a fine gesture on the part of the Aquino family,” Marcos said.
“Well, we’ve always been OK. We just don’t agree politically,” the President said when asked by a journalist whether the “feud” between the two families is over.
