MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has collected almost P1 billion in fines from traffic violators in the first semester of the year.

The LTO said it collected P986.5 million in revenue from payment of traffic violations from January to June.

LTO chief Vigor Mendoza said the agency is on track to meet its revenue collection target for the year.

He lauded traffic enforcers for their hard work.

“The almost P1 billion collection from fines alone is a result of the hard work of our law enforcers and other personnel on the ground. We cannot achieve this without their commitment in ensuring road safety,” Mendoza said.

Up to 330,073 motorists were apprehended from Jan. 1 to June 30 as the LTO stepped up its road safety measures.

The LTO said it is set to meet its P33-billion revenue collection target for 2024. The agency has collected P17.9 billion from motor vehicle user charges and driver’s license transactions since January.
