TACLOBAN, Philippines — Six people died while two others were injured when a cargo truck rammed seven houses in Calbayog, Samar on Tuesday.
Police have yet to identify the fatalities including a nine-year-old girl. They were pinned under the truck.
Five of the fatalities were declared dead on arrival in a hospital, while another died while being treated.
The truck driver and his female passenger were rushed to a hospital for treatment of injuries.
The victims were asleep in their houses in Barangay Caglanipao Sur when the accident occurred at dawn.
Initial investigation showed the truck lost its brakes as it was traveling along Maharlika Highway.
Responding personnel of the Calbayog City Rescue Unit extracted the victims from under the truck.
