MANILA, Philippines — The security guard who threw a puppy from an overpass in Quezon City in July last year would have to find a new job.

The Supervisory Office for Security and Investigation Agencies of the Philippine National Police (PNP) has revoked the license of Jojo Malicdem after investigation showed he violated provisions of Republic Act 11917 or the Private Security Services Industry Act.

“He is barred from practicing his security profession for two years,” Civil Security Group (CSG) spokesperson Lt. Col. Eudisan Gultiano said in a message on Viber.
It is unclear if Malicdem needs to comply with additional requirements should he choose to re-apply his license after two years.

Malicdem is also undergoing trial before a Quezon City court for violation of Republic Act 8485, or the Animal Welfare Act, as amended by RA 10631, which increased the penalties for acts of cruelty against animals.

The charges were filed by the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) executive director Anna Cabrera.

Should he be found guilty, Malicdem could face imprisonment of one year and six months to two years and a fine of P100,000.
