2 persons of interest eyed in cop’s shooting

MANILA, Philippines — Probers have identified two persons of interest in the shooting of a police officer in Taguig on Sunday night.

Police said they are tracking down the suspects who, along with two other people, were tagged in the shooting that wounded Pat. Austine Jhon Austria.

Austria is recuperating in a hospital.

The shooting occurred along Lopez Jaena street in Barangay Rizal at around 11:50 p.m., probers said.

Austria and other police personnel were pursuing two armed men on a motorcycle who were initially spotted in Barangay Pembo.

Police saw the motorcycle abandoned in the area. While inspecting the vehicle, two other motorcycle-riding suspects arrived.

The back rider fired at Austria. His colleagues returned fire, but the suspects escaped.

Austria suffered gunshots to his thigh, leg and feet. He was rushed to the Ospital ng Makati for treatment.

Austria was later transferred to St. Luke’s Medical Center in BGC, Taguig.
