MANILA, Philippines — A cleaner at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 (NAIA-3) found a pair of used socks that contained $18,800 (approximately P1 million) at past midnight yesterday.

Rosalinda Celero found the socks under a gang chair at the south wing of NAIA-3’s departure area, just after the final security checkpoint.

Celero brought her find to the terminal’s lost and found section.

Security personnel from the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) are checking closed-circuit television footage to identify the owner of the money and how the owner got the cash past security checks.

The owner may have tried to smuggle the money out of the country, the MIAA said.

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas allows only $10,000 to be brought out of the country by a passenger.

MIAA general manager Eric Ines lauded Celero for being honest.
