Palace: June 24 a special non-working day in Manila

MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang has declared June 24 a special non-working day in Manila, which is celebrating its 453rd founding anniversary.

The declaration is contained in Proclamation No. 599 signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, by the authority of President Marcos, yesterday.

“It is but fitting and proper that the people of the City of Manila be given full opportunity to participate in the occasion and enjoy the celebration,” the proclamation read.

The nation’s capital was founded on June 24, 1571 by Miguel Lopez de Legazpi, the Spanish conquistador who became the Philippines’ first governor-general.
