Beached dolphin rescued in Southern Leyte
TACLOBAN CITY, Philippines — An injured dolphin was rescued by residents in Padre Burgos, Southern Leyte on Monday morning.
The 150-kilo mammal was found stranded along the shore in Barangay Lungsodaan at around 9:30 a.m. It’s tail was severed and a part of its flesh was exposed.
Members of the marine mammal stranding team as well as police and local officials fitted the dolphin with a life vest to keep it afloat.
Christine Gresola, information officer of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), said the the dolphin would be transported to a mammal stranding facility in Ormoc.
Authorities will find a suitable place for the rehabilitation of the dolphin, in coordination with the city government of Ormoc and the Philippine Marine Mammal Stranding Network.
