Kagawad held for using gun to threaten neighbors
MANILA, Philippines — A barangay kagawad who was caught on video threatening binge drinkers with a firearm in Malabon City on Tuesday was arrested by police.
The suspect, 63-year-old Jaime Domingo, is being held on charges of grave threat and alarm and scandal that were filed by the police before the office of the city prosecutor.
Malabon police chief Col. Jay Baybayan said in a message on Viber that Domingo arrived at his residence in Barangay Panghulo at around 2:30 a.m. and confronted a group of men who were binge drinking.
The barangay councilman was caught on video threatening his neighbors with a handgun. He was also seen punching a man in the presence of other people.
Domingo grabbed the man and fired his handgun on the ground, nearly hitting the victim’s feet.
Baybayan said Domingo became angry when he saw a group of men binge drinking in front of his house.
Domingo surrendered a .45-caliber handgun, which had the necessary license and permit. Probers recovered six bullet casings and two deformed bullets at the scene.
Apart from criminal cases, Baybayan said they would also ask the Firearms and Explosives Office to revoke Domingo’s license to own and possess a firearm and permit to carry a firearm outside his residence.
